The Story of Art Without Men

€ 36,25

Katy Hessel

In her first book, art historian and broadcaster Katy Hessel reshapes art history by placing women at its heart. The Story of Art without Men continues Hessel’s dedication to celebrating women artists and providing an accessible and inclusive art history.

Discover the women who spearheaded the Renaissance such as Sofonisba Anguissola, the radical work of Harriet Powers in the nineteenth-century USA, and the artist who really invented the Readymade. Explore the Dutch Golden Age, the astonishing work of post-War artists in Latin America and the women artists defining art in the 2020s. Have your sense of art history overturned, and your eyes opened to many art forms often overlooked or dismissed. From the Cornish coast to Manhattan, Nigeria to Japan, this is the history of art as it's never been told before.

Katy Hessel is an art historian, curator, writer, and broadcaster. She is the founder of the Instagram account @thegreatwomenartists and the podcast of the same name. Hessel is a regular contributor to The Guardian, British Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar. She has lectured at Cambridge University and the National Gallery, as well as presented documentaries for the BBC.
